Aanii Boozhoo kina wiiyaa!
Sadie Southwind n’dizhinikaaz, Cardinal who speaks for the people n’dogoog. Migizi dodem. Henry miinwaa Elsie Southwind n’gitziimag. I am a proud member of Sagamok Anishnawbek and a fluent speaker of our language.
For the last 18 years I have been employed with Sagamok Anishnawbek as the Community Infrastructure Manager. Through this work, I have gained valuable experience in negotiations with outside contractors, developing strong business relationships and management practices. I also sit on the Sagamok Joint Health and Safety Committee as an employer representative.
When I am not working, I enjoy learning about Mshkiki, our traditional medicines. You will see me out in our territory harvesting plants, roots, and bark. This past summer, I made it my personal goal to learn more about medicines and went to Saskatchewan and participated in a hands-on workshop on medicines and then ventured further to find medicines that can help with addictions. I love my community, and I like helping in any way that I can. My other past times are fishing, hunting and building.
I am honoured to have been elected Councillor by my fellow community members and to be able to serve my community. Our community faces many challenges and at the same time, Sagamok is pursuing opportunities to help build our community. I am proud to be a part of leadership and welcome the responsibility of helping in serving and meeting the needs of my community. I have been appointed to be a council representative to the Sagamok Development Corporation Board, Mental Health and Addictions Board, and the Healing Lodge Working Group, as well as being invited to participate with the Education Committee.
I look forward to learning more about our community’s economic, political, and social development opportunities.
