The 2020-2021 brought a very unique set of challenges to Human Resources, in the form of a Pandemic. Beginning in March 2020 the department had to learn how to adapt, while trying to maintain focus and purpose of the department. We kept this focus and maintained our services from I.T., Economic Development, Communications, Payroll, Library, Administrative Reception, and Screening Clerks at the Multi-Educational Centre.
The Human Resources department played a role in the coordination and execution of COVID protocols. This was accomplished through working with local Public Health Units and the Emergency Operational Control Group.
The department maintained focus on the implementation of a new time management, payroll and human resources system, continuous policy development and updates. The department continued to establish effect and efficient working relationships with all of its partners, internal and external.
HR/Shared Services, ICT will continue to provide technical support services to all departments in Sagamok Anishnawbek by continuing its focus on improving connectivity and communication between departments and all staff facilities in Sagamok. Our main priorities for the coming year include:
- Continue cut-over to new Miter Finch timekeeping system, and biometric device implementation.
- Assist with rollout of new Bell Fiber internet access in various community sites.
- Assist Biidaaban School with installation of new Meraki system for blocking unwanted website traffic and prioritizing educational apps.
- Improving disaster recovery plans through implementation of redundant systems for backup and restoration of server system data.
- Continued support to staff for off-site or remote access to on-premises assets using virtual private networks and mobile technology.
- Continue collaboration with 3rd party vendors to provide enhanced online services for the protection of Sagamok Anishnawbek staff and computer technology.

HR ENHANCEMENTS
The department welcomes Sean Cassidy on February 1st, 2021 as a Communications Coordinator, complimenting the team with years of experience in the field supporting both public and private organizations. Sean brings a number of skills and capacity to the Sagamok Communications Team, with creative experience in video editing, web design and podcast development.
PANDEMIC SUPPORT
Sagamok Communications provided a full range of communications support services for the EOCG and leadership as well as making use of new and existing channels to distribute information to Sagamok residents. Associated products include addresses to the community by the Chief, current service listings and community calendars and crisis information.
In response to the pandemic, Sagamok Communications launched two new social media channels servicing Sagamok community members. “Sagamok Anishnawbek COVID-19 Alert” was established to inform community members of the decisions of the Sagamok Anishnawbek EOCG and community Leadership as it managed the pandemic situation. This channel also informed community members of relevant provincial and federal responses in managing the pandemic situation along with resources links to credible, responsible sources. “Sagamok Community Connections” was established to strengthen the relationships within and between families by encouraging everyone to reach out to help others and to seek help when they require it.
IMPLEMENTING AN UPDATED SOCIAL MEDIA POLICY
The pandemic brought with it many stresses for everyone and these stresses were some- times evident within community social media channels. The pandemic year was characterized by a number of conflicts between social media users. Sagamok Communications up- dated its social media policy framework to better manage Sagamok Anishnawbek’s social media holdings in an effort to maintain relationships and continue to guarantee safe online spaces for community members and residents to access the information they need. As the new polices were shared with online audiences, they were complimented by statements of values as described by the Seven Grandfather Teachings.
