RHT Settlement Disbursement Updates & Polling Results

I would like to take this time to thank all those community members who participated in the poll conducted by OneFeather Mobile Technologies Inc. We had an overwhelming response to participation and recognize that the addition of the electronic polling option clearly assisted our members by enabling access to the poll regardless of location or residence. We’d like to thank OneFeather, for efficiently and effectively conducting our online and in person poll.

Attached you will see the official results of the poll, as issued by OneFeather Mobile Technologies Inc. These results were shared with Council today, July 4, 2024, at a duly convened meeting, and as such, Council has approved the disbursement formula of Sagamok Anishnawbek’s Robinson Huron Treaty Settlement Funds at 70%/30% (that is, 70% going towards Per Capita Distribution, and 30% going into a Collective Trust), based on the clearly preferred option by the membership of Question #1 in our polling results.

Additionally, Sagamok Anishnawbek will utilize a distribution formula incorporating an age-based distribution with a base amount. Please see chart for the age-based augmentation calculation.

Sagamok Registered individuals will receive an equal base amount of $100,000 plus an age-based augmentation utilizing the individual’s age in 2024, as per the chart above.

Again, I would like to thank all those who took the time to participate either online or in person. Council has utilized this polling feedback to assist with disbursement decision making and acknowledges the preference of the majority of our membership who participated in the poll.

We are still hopeful that disbursement from the RHT will be in line with the early August timeframe for first payment. As previously shared, in the face of the recently submitted legal challenge to the prior approved legal fee arrangement, Council did approve on June 18th, 2024, that should there be delay of RHT settlement proceeds payments to communities, Sagamok Anishnawbek will provide an advance payment of individual RHT PCD in the amount of $10,000 in August, to members aged 18 and older who have submitted the completed forms listed below. Completed forms should be submitted by July 7, 2024, to ensure sufficient time to input individual banking information into payment systems. Those submitting after this date may experience a delay in payment. Forms can be obtained at the Administration Office, or in the Sagamok Member’s Portal at: https://www.sagamokanishnawbek.com/sagamok-members

In preparation for payment, you must submit:

1. Band Registry Update Form, and
2. Pre-Authorized Deposit Agreement Form with Void Cheque or Bank Stamp
3. A forthcoming waiver will also be required

The waiver will indicate the amount each individual can expect to receive, which will be dependent on the population reconciliation of the 21 communities, and the results of our Community Poll on Per Capita Disbursement (PCD) considerations.
