Flood Warning notice for the Spanish River - State of Emergency Declared

May 2, 2025

The Ministry of Natural Resources – Sudbury District has issued an updated Flood Warning notice for the Spanish River, which will be in effect until Thursday, May 08, 2025. As a result of the Flood Warning, Sagamok has issued a State of Emergency as a precautionary measure in the event that the river continues to rise and interrupt access to the community.

The situation continues to be closely monitored by the Sagamok Fire Department with twice daily measurements to ensure that the community’s main access road, Highway 7300, remains safe for Sagamok travelers and will provide adequate notice if the situation becomes critical.

There is the potential for flooding in low-lying areas and residents may wish to take necessary action to secure or protect property in flood-prone or vulnerable areas. Please monitor any children or pets under your care around these hazards and supervise their activities. Cold flowing water is dangerous water. Also, please adjust your driving to match road conditions and watch for standing water in low lying areas, and consider the following preparation measures:

• Prepare Your Personal Emergency Kits: Ensure you have enough essential supplies, including extra food, water, medications, clothing, flashlights, batteries, and important documents.

• Fuel Up: Top off your vehicles and fill portable fuel containers if safe to do so.

• Check on Family and Neighbours: Ensure elders, those with limited mobility, and anyone with health concerns are supported and aware of the advisory.

• Register for Emergency Alerts via Everbridge: Stay connected and receive real-time updates. If you haven’t registered yet follow this link:

Be Ready for Possible Evacuation: Especially for vulnerable populations, preparations should be made in case evacuation orders are issued. Know that the Emergency Operations Control Group has a plan in place to respond to potential flooding emergencies while taking care of our vulnerable populations.  Our response teams are on stand-by to act if, and when, they are called upon.
