Precautionary Boil Water Advisory – Effective Immediately – Until Further Notice

Affected Areas: All residents from the Sagamok Millennium Centre through to the Industrial Park, including all homes along River Road and River Crescent

Due to rising water levels in the Spanish River, several watermain isolation valves within the distribution system are currently submerged. At this time, there are unknown risks associated with potential contamination entering the water distribution system.

As a precautionary measure, a Boil Water Advisory (BWA) is being issued effective immediately for all affected areas listed above.

What is a Precautionary Boil Water Advisory?

A Precautionary Boil Water Advisory is issued when there is a potential risk to drinking water safety. While contamination has not been confirmed, conditions exist that could allow harmful bacteria or other microorganisms to enter the system.

During this advisory, all water used for the following purposes should be brought to a rolling boil for at least one (1) minute:

• Drinking

• Preparing food or beverages

• Brushing teeth

• Washing fruits and vegetables

• Making ice

Alternatively, bottled water may be used.

Water can continue to be used for bathing and laundry; however, extra care should be taken to avoid ingesting water, especially for young children and vulnerable individuals.

What to Watch For

If you experience any of the following, report it immediately:

• Discoloured (brown, yellow, or cloudy) water

• Unusual odour

• Loss of water pressure
