The Planning & Sustainable Development Committee is a new committee that will focus on long-range planning for the community, balancing the need for growth and development with the preservation of cultural heritage and environmental sustainability. This includes comprehensive community planning, land use planning, zoning laws/policies, housing developments, commercial development, public works projects, and community planning initiatives. Its role would be exclusively advisory in nature. Land use plans would be comprehensive and focused on protection and sustainable use of reserve and traditional territories. Built Infrastructure planning would focus on both roads and services, and placement of public facilities and community buildings to improve quality of life in the community. This work would be expected to include consideration of the environmental and cultural aspirations of the community (e.g., facilities, design elements into architecture, and spaces for cultural activities and gatherings).
