Sudbury District has issued an updated Flood Warning notice for the Spanish River

The Ministry of Natural Resources – Sudbury District has issued an updated Flood Warning notice for the Spanish River, which will be in effect until April 27, 2026. Due to the Flood Warning, as well as some interior roads already flooded and closed, (River Road is currently closed between Marlene and Silas Abitong's to Raymond and Janet Owl's residences) Sagamok has issued a State of Emergency as a precautionary measure in the event that the continued rise of the river interrupts access to the community. Declaring a State of Emergency allows Sagamok to mobilize resources and implement measures to rapidly protect the community that would otherwise be cost prohibitive or delayed.

The situation continues to be closely monitored by the Sagamok Fire Department with twice daily measurements to ensure that the community’s main access road, Highway 7300, remains safe for Sagamok travelers and notice will be provided if the situation becomes critical. There is projection of possible water breach of Highway 7300 on or around Monday April 20. Update will be shared at approximately 1:30 pm tomorrow. Please use caution and expect to see preparatory work around the Pavilion on Hwy 7300 on Sunday.

Low lying areas are currently flooding and it is advised to take the necessary actions to secure or protect property in flood-prone or vulnerable areas. Please monitor any children or pets under your care around these hazards and supervise their activities. Cold flowing water is dangerous. Please also adjust your driving to match road conditions and watch for standing water in low lying areas, construction areas, closed road barricades, and warning indicators.

Please consider the following preparation measures:

Prepare Your Personal Emergency Kits: Ensure you have enough essential supplies, including extra food, water, medications, clothing, flashlights, batteries, and important documents.

Fuel Up: Top off your vehicles and fill portable fuel containers if safe to do so.

Check on Family and Neighbours: Ensure elders, those with limited mobility, and anyone with health concerns are supported and aware of the advisory.

Register for Emergency Alerts via Everbridge: Stay connected and receive real-time updates. If you haven’t registered yet follow this link:
