Message from The Chief’s Desk

Aanii Kinaweya
As announced at Sagamok’s Annual General Meeting on October 17, 2025, Chief and Council have approved issuance of a per capita distribution (PCD) of $1,000 per registered Sagamok individual this December from interest earned on the RHT Trust.
All Sagamok Registered individuals who received an initial per capita distribution from the Robinson-Huron Treaty settlement for past compensation will receive this one-time payment of $1,000 by December 12, 2025. Please note, international wire transfers will experience a 2 or 3 day delay.
Distribution eligibility is for those registered with Sagamok Anishnawbek who are alive and registered by October 14th, 2025, and who have completed an application waiver form. Those under 18, who meet the above criteria, will have this amount added to the minor's trust in their name.
If you have not signed an application waiver form in the past, you will be required to submit one to be eligible along with an authorization for Direct Deposit Form, a copy of your banking information and one valid piece of government issued identification no later than December 5, 2025.
If you have already received distribution in the past, but your banking information has changed, you will be required to submit an updated Authorization for Direct Deposit form, a copy of banking information and one valid piece of government issued identification no later than December 5, 2025 to the Membership office at owl_renee@sagamok.ca Failure to provide this information by December 5, 2025 will result in a delay in payment.
Sagamok Administration, along with members of Chief and Council, recently held Community Engagement sessions to support community participation in development of the policy needed to manage our RHT Trust’s interest earned, now and in the future. Urban off-reserve sessions were held in Sudbury, Ottawa, and Toronto. An additional urban session will be planned for Sault Ste Marie and a number of Sagamok community based sessions are expected to begin in January. You can review materials from these engagement sessions on the Members Portal, under the section titled “RHT Trust Distribution Policy Engagement.” We are grateful to everyone who has participated in these important conversations and we hope for continued participation in those discussions.
An annual individual distribution has been a common theme throughout all of the engagements about RHT trust policy, over the past few years. Council is proud to meet that need this year, with this one-time distribution of $1,000. We will continue to engage community in the development of the policy to ensure we address community priorities for present and future needs of our people.
Sagamok administration is also planning some upcoming information sessions in the new year around Own-Source Revenue and partnership endeavors to share updates on additional strategies creating opportunity for Sagamok Anishnawbek. Please watch out for notifications of those upcoming sessions.
On behalf of Council, I wish you all a safe and prosperous Christmas season.
