Conservation Sudbury is issuing a Flood Outlook statement for all Greater Sudbury watersheds effective 4PM today. This statement will remain in effect until 2PM, April 8, 2026.
Watershed Conditions Statement - Flood Outlook
Early notice of the potential for flooding based on weather forecasts calling for heavy rain, snow melt, high wind or other conditions that could lead to high runoff or cause ice jams, lakeshore flooding, or erosion.
The Sudbury area is forecasted to receive between 30 and 50mm of mixed precipitation between Thursday afternoon and Sunday morning. The ground throughout the watershed is currently frozen and the existing snow pack has little ability to absorb additional moisture. Daytime temperatures are forecast to be above zero, which will result in additional runoff release from the existing snowpack. Beyond Thursday, nighttime temperatures are currently forecast to remain below freezing, which will slow down any additional snow melt and flow contribution.
