Porcupine Presence in Community

Recently, there have been dogs in the community around the Maple Ridge area who have had the unfortunate experience of getting too close to porcupines.  Please keep in mind that this is the time that these animals are foraging for the winter.

If you have had a pet that has been hit by the quills, keep in mind that it is YOUR responsibility as a Pet Owner to ensure that you seek medical treatment as soon as possible.

Mild cases have been known to cost approximately $1,200-$1,400 for veterinary care to have the quills removed.  It is a punishable offence of fines upwards of $50,000 if a pet has been neglected and not given proper care.

Please be cautious and report sightings to the By-Law Enforcement Officer at 705-863-0145.
