William Caldwell - Director of Housing
My name is William Caldwell. I grew up on a farm on Lee Valley Road near the four corners in Massey. I spent my youth between Massey and Espanola, playing hockey, hunting, fishing and enjoying everything outdoors. I attended secondary school where I studied Chemical Environmental Engineering but later changed my major to Civil Engineering.
After completing school, I moved to Collingwood where I found myself getting a job with Honda at their new manufacturing plant in Alliston, Ontario. I spent eight months on the assembly line before moving into an offline position in the final assembly new model department. Nine months later, I moved into the product engineering department. I was the Chassis Team Leader for the Honda Odyssey, Pilot and the Ridgeline truck. I spent my last two years with Honda working at their new plant in Alabama and having a successful plant launch.
In 2003, I accepted a position as the Sr. Resident Design Engineer and group leader at the Hyundai manufacturing plant in Alabama. I spent nearly six years in Alabama launching my second automotive manufacturing plant with Hyundai. After the plant launch, I left Hyundai and moved into the aerospace industry as an Engineering manufacturing manager. Where I put my automotive systems and procedures into play and transformed a re-manufacturing facility into a Tier one supplier for the US army’s predator drone program. In early 2009, my family and I decided it was time to move back to Canada. Back in Canada, I worked as the Program Director at the non-profit Yves Landry Foundation. My position was the Program Director, and my responsibilities included lobbying the government for provincial and federal manufacturing training grants. These grants were issued to deserving companies within Ontario.
In 2010, I decided to further my education, where I went back to school to start my bachelor’s degree in business. With a busy schedule between being a full-time student as well as a dad and selling newly built homes on weekends, led me to get my real estate license in 2014. While still working in real estate, in March 2020, I relocated back home to northern Ontario where I continued a successful career as a self-employed real estate agent.
I am excited to start my new employment/life journey with the Sagamok Anishnawbek community. I am looking forward to applying my years of project management and team building experience to my new role and to help drive the housing goals over the next coming years. I consider myself very fortunate to be able to join Sagamok in such a rewarding role and I look forward to working together and accomplishing great things. My goal is to provide a welcoming work environment for all community members. To provide the best possible programs and services that will benefit the community and its members.
Miigwech/Thank you for allowing me to join the team as the new Director of Housing at Sagamok Anishnawbek.
Some fun facts: Through work I was able to travel to 5 countries, went to 29 different states, and was certified to drive on over 10 different test tracks around the world including the Suzuki Motor Circuit Japan, Ulsan Test facility South Korea, Talladega Racetrack in Alabama, and the Michelin and Bridgestone Proving grounds, just to name a few. I was also published by the Canadian National Standards Association for my work in Automotive manufacturing.
