Sagamok’s Lands, Resources, and Environment (LRE) Department is committed to advancing land stewardship through land-based learning and historical knowledge transfer, with a focus on Sagamok history and the integration of two-eyed seeing alongside science-based knowledge. Key priorities include enhancing Use & Occupancy mapping to identify ceremonial and cultural sites, developing hunting protocols to assert jurisdiction and uphold treaty rights, and building governance capacity through training on lands management under the Indian Act. These efforts will inform the transition toward a self-governance model, while also strengthening dispute resolution processes through data gathering, community input, and expert consultation.
